I’ve been given a lot of opportunities in my life and have had a lot of help along the way.  These gifts have shown me the importance of giving back to my community.

I presently work as an Associate for ArtsFund, which is a non-profit in the Seattle area providing general operating support to  nonprofit arts groups within King and Pierce County.  The range of supported groups is broad in terms of size and disciplines covering anything from theater to ballet to independent film.  The funds provided to the arts groups are directed towards operating funds as they are the most flexible, and therefore most valuable, of donated funds received by arts groups.  These funds help keep ticket prices as low as possible, increase access to the arts for all, and enable outreach touring and children’s education programs.  While the grants provided are unrestricted, ArtsFund prides itself on an extensive and thorough grant application process.

Here‘s a great editorial column written about ArtsFund in the Seattle Times on May 8th, 2011.

I also currently sit as an intern on the board for ArtsWest, which is a performing arts theater located in West Seattle.  It is best known for “produc(ing) artistic events so fiercely compelling that they require conversation, improve the imagination, and promote cultural vibrancy as a core value for the communities of Seattle.”  In summation, they don’t shy away from the topics and the controversy at the core of our society.  If you would be interested in attending one of their shows, you can find the listing of the most current seasons shows here.
